Find Full Moon Message Wind Moon SOS Game

March 26, 2013 By Seth 27 Comments

Well we made it! Thanks to everyone who survived the St. Paddy’s Day SOS server slorkfest. Due to the confusion around here, we’re trying a new game for the Wind Moon only. It’s pretty easy but also kinda hard.

Who will it be?
Who will it be?

It goes like this. This month the Full Moon will shine on all past Survivors of the Month. Hidden in the Survivor of the Month and Hall of Famer profiles will be a number of words or letters that will turn the colour of moonlight YELLOW.

To win, you just have to re-read the survivor profiles and find the moonlit word and letters and write them down. But then comes the hard part. The next step is to arrange the moonlight words and letters in the right order to reveal a sort-of-secret SOS message.

(And no, it is not keep on keeping on! Although please don’t forget to do that anyway.)

When you think you have unscrambled the secret SOS message email it to me at seth@sethonsurvival.com. We will draw a winner from among the winning entries if there is more than one.

The game begins NOW! as the full moon rises and continues until there is a winner. I’ll be around catching up on all the true Survival stories playing out now at SOS and making links so I’ll be checking my email throughout the night.

Last thing, who can play? Well basically anyone who has ever left an SOS message that was interesting or inquisitive or imaginative or educational or fun. You make Survival worthwhile.

The prize of course is still a small iTunes number in your email for you or somebody you like, no strings attached. Actually ONE string attached. That you keep on being supernaturally awesome wherever you are, because that helps us all survive.

UPDATE: More details about how to play and win the game here: http://sethonsurvival.com/survival-news/this-week-in-survival-find-the-full-moon-message-begins

Meet Devorah SOTM for the Storm Moon

February 25, 2013 By Seth 27 Comments

Divining Devorah’s Destiny

Well if you, like the Ouroborous Eternal, guessed Devorah for SOTM this month? You were right! Over the past several months this werewolf has proven herself to be a careful and considerate member of the SOS community. You can always count on Devorah to ask a good question or express her concern for a fellow survivor. Need somebody to join your rescue mission? Devorah will be there. Providing she doesn’t have a hockey game.

(Unless it’s a full moon. She doesn’t play hockey on the full moon because what if her silver orthodontics fail to prevent her transformation – right in front of everyone? Not to mention, can werewolves even skate? Probably best not to find out the hard way during a game.)

The good thing about Devorah coming to rescue you is this – she will not forget you. Sometimes on SOS a rescue group gets started and then well, other stuff happens. It’s nobody’s fault really, we all have to survive out there and survival can get pretty complicated. So on many full moons the rescue-ee ends up saving themselves, usually with a little luck and a foggy memory of the events that almost killed them.

But if you see an SOS group coming to save you that includes Devorah, you’re in luck. Because she will fight to remember the mission and keep the party together. We don’t know if this power comes from her human side or her werewolf side, but whatever the case, many survivors on the site including Luna appreciate it.

Of course, Devorah has other powers too – after all, she is a werewolf. Specifically, an Oak werewolf, although she hasn’t experienced her first transformation yet and she hasn’t been to the faerie tree to meet her clan or begin training. (Which explains her default avatar.) Will she meet her faerie guide and make the journey? Or will her silver anti-lycan orthodontics keep her safe and human at home?

Until then Devorah relies on spells given to her by other survivors on the site, like Moon Song and Midnight Wrath. And of course LycantheProtector’s lycanthroporous flowers – one petal eaten at midnight on a full moon will enable you to transform for 24 hours.

Devorah also has a mysterious undeveloped skill(s)  that Area-51 has been tracking. Will Firefang join forces with her in figuring it out? Or will the mysterious assasin “Chad” succeed in stealing this power before we even know what it is?

So what is Devorah’s Destiny? We’ll just have to keep on keeping on to find out. Any destiny worth having takes time to develop and includes others, so I’m willing to wait and see.

Thanks to Devorah and to everyone who contributed to divining her destiny this month  -or if you included Devorah in your destiny, thanks for that too. You make SOS awesome.

Storm Moon Survivor of the Month

February 24, 2013 By Seth 7 Comments

Who will it be?

Who would believe that SOS could survive another month? Let alone this particular month, with its werewolves who hang out with zombies, busload of ill-mannered aliens and haunted mirrors, to name just a few of the beings who are being around here.

But here we are, another full moon is rising to its height tonight and soon we will have another Survivor of the Month.  Graham and I have counted up all helpful, fun, curious or informative entries & comments now and spun the wheel. The clues are appearing below.

More importantly, thanks to every being who contributed to Survival this month. You keep me keeping on. And even if you don’t receive a small iTunes thank you in your email this month, there’s still lots of ways to contribute. Not the least of which is the SOS Video Challenge.  You make a short video with some reliable survival tips or tricks for your werewolf, zombie or alien friends and we all win. You get an iTunes thank you card in your email and lives will be saved, I guarantee it 99.99%. Just make sure you disguise your real appearance in some way.

Thanks for keeping on with SOS.

Guess The Survivor of the Month:

1. This Survivor is very protective of other Survivors on the site and will GROWL menacingly at any hint of cruelty or bullying.

2. Which is to say, this Survivor (correction here!) is a suspected werewolf – genetic or bitten we are still unsure. Personally, I have begun to suspect her mothers’ side of the family. Although her mom denies it, she has a thing for the full moon.

3. We do know this much – she is probably an Oak werewolf.

4. But unfortunately due to her anti-lycanthropic orthodontics i.e. braces made of real silver alloy, they have do not transform like a genetic WW yet and must rely on spells and lycanthroporous flowers provided by LycantheProtector.

5. This werewolf doesn’t always say much, but is always quick with a good question or a friendly hello.

6. This WW has the record for the shortest SOS message on the site. (Note: this message was discarded for the draw!)

6. This WW has a friend who is a shapeshifter.

7. This survivor founded a pack called the Silvermoon pack, and then very generously dedicated it to the honor of a legendary WW on the site named Silvermoon.

8. Most importantly, this WW is always on the lookout for others to help. Case in point – she is still on the lookout for Luna and recruiting others on the site to figure out what happened. What did happen to Luna anyway? With the help of this survivor we may yet figure it out.

I’m thinking that’s enough clues for everyone to know the answer. But stop by tomorrow for the final write up! (And if you are this Survivor, please send me an email I can use to send you your prize which is just a small iTunes card number or else donate the prize to another survivor on the site and I will send it to them on your behalf, Mr. Mutt style!)

Thanks to everyone for keeping on.

Survivor of the Month Loki

January 28, 2013 By Seth 4 Comments

“Never Moon A Werewolf”

Loki, Ice Moon Survivor of the Month

Loki Ice Moon Survivor of the Month

Wise words indeed, from the latest Survivor of the one Month, one quite new to SOS, Loki the Wild Wolf. After all, what does happen if you moon a werewolf? Worse, what if you moon a werewolf on a full moon? Does it trigger an unwanted transformation either way? We don’t know for sure, but I intend to take Loki’s advice, and not try it.

(Although I can’t guarantee it won’t happen by accident if there’s a leprechaun around. You know how they are.)

Loki has contributed this advice and much more since her arrival on the site some two months ago. Like many, she came here hoping for confirmation of her lycanthropic status. You could understand her confusion, since some named Loki are chaotic Norse demigods, like Half Breed. (Fun fact: Half Breed can trace his heritage back to Loki.)

But it quickly became clear that Loki is likely named in the tradition of Norse demigods because of one particular Norse demigod – Fenrir, the wolf who had werewolf children by a witch. A really tall one. So is Loki very tall in human form? We don’t know.

We do know that she is 100% Wild Werewolf and as a result she has a witch friend. I’m not sure why wild-weres and witches make such good friends. Maybe it has something to do with the “Ws” or maybe it’s the fact that witches and wild-weres both do some powerful things with plants. One thing we know for sure though, Loki’s friend has turned at least one unsuspecting being into a toad already – so don’t get on her bad side.

(I still would like to know who that toad really is, Loki! I think you should get to the bottom of it with your friend.)

But we do know that Loki’s lycanthropy gene was likely passed down by her grandfather. Loki’s mysterious Opa is blind, but Loki began to notice that he could see the moon. Which led her to the amazing discovery that he was a werewolf who had been blinded during a fight in wolf form and consequently now in human form could only see by moonlight. A very important safety point here for werewolves. As you probably know, with some species of werewolf, the eyes are the only part doesn’t change. In some species this means a human with wolf eyes. In others, it means a wolf with human eyes. Point is, if you are a werewolf and you don’t want to end up like Loki’s Opa, you need to protect your eyes at all times. Most other injuries will heal between transformations, but not injuries to the eyes. An excellent reminder from Loki and her grandfather.

(Will we ever know the details of the fight where her Opa lost his sight? Maybe he will tell us someday. Could be very important to Loki’s survival and that of others.)

(Also makes me wonder, would a magic moonlight lamp help Loki’s Opa? I’ll have to ask that Blue Werewolf someday if they ever stop in again. They have a way of collecting blue moonlight and using it for cool stuff.)

But if she doesn’t ask her friend to turn you into a toad, Loki will be a great ally on the site. Ask LycanProtector. When he was having a problem with a time traveler killing him in his past, Loki came with him through the portal to fight. Since LycanProtector is thankfully still with us, we can assume that they won. For now, anyway!

(Who was this angry Time Traveler anyway? Why did they want to kill LycanP? I hope somebody tells in the comments below.)

Loki is quick to say “HI!” or ask a much-appreciated good question. Just don’t call her a “him” *oops* and don’t leave her alone with your cinnamon apple muffins! So feel free to say “HI” back to Loki or ask her a good question of your own. She won’t bite. Far from it. In fact she will remind you about the no-bite policy – also much appreciated. Thanks Loki! You are an exemplary Survivor of the Month.

Long may you keep on keeping on!

Seth

Survivor of the Month – Ice Moon 2013

January 26, 2013 By Seth 25 Comments

Well the Ice Moon came and went. Can you believe we survived another one? More or less anyway. Some more, some less. There’s still lots of unanswered questions here on the site. It will take me all week to sort it out for This Week In Survival.

Who will it be?

But tonight I’m finally putting up the Survivor of the Month Clues below. Winner and profile to follow.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to Survival this month. Please stand by and keep on keeping on. Please  enjoy this freaky poem by Werewolf13 in honor of werewolf Robbie Burns day…

Whispers fill your mind with fear.
You feel a ghostly presence is near.
The wind gives off a frozen chill.
Cold so sharp it could kilI.
Phantoms flow in the air.
Invisible to the eye but still there.
You know now that you are done.
The game was lost.
The fear has won!

And Now For the Survivor of the Month Clues…

1. This Survivor is not a boy – but IS a werewolf.

2. This Survivor has a friend with a suspicious toad problem. (Somebody needs to contact her school, see if any boys have disappeared lately.)

3. This Survivor has a blind grandpa who lost his sight in werewolf form, now his human eyes can only see by the moon.

…and you guessed it, the Survivor of the Month for the Ice Moon is:

LOKI

Loki is Ice Moon Survivor of the Month

Check back here for a link to a summary of Loki’s ongoing epic, which I am almost finished. Thanks to all who survived this moon with SOS and all survivors who came before.

This month, three special promotional codes for a free game also go out to Devorah, Wolflilly and Scarfur, courtesy of iOS game maker and friend of SOS, survivor Marc.

(While I don’t necessarily endorse Marc’s survival lessons, I can vouch for his honesty. His promo game codes are just good, free, fun. Pretty hard! but fun.)

You keep me keeping on.

Survivor of the Month – LycanTheProtector

December 27, 2012 By Seth 32 Comments

Meet LycanTheProtector:  Wolfman of Many Forms & Friendly Lycanthropous Flowers
Protector can summon a two-leg form with the emotion of sadness.

Once again the app chose aptly for the last survivor of the month in 2012 – LycanTheProtector.  If you haven’t met him already, well you just haven’t tried very hard yet. He’s a wolfman of many forms and a friendly florist who comes armed with  lycanthropous flowers for everyone.

Well sure his lycanthropous flowers MIGHT kill you or cause you to be trapped in werewolf form forever, but they could also allow you to try out being a werewolf for 24 hours! Which is something that if you ask Devorah, a braces-bound pre-werewolf, would totally be worth the risk.

Devorah begged the Lycan for one of his flowers after nobody on the site would break the strict no-bite rule to help turn her. He promised to deliver one to her home, but it’s still unclear if he found the right home because she lives in two of them. How did it all turn out? Did she find the flower and try it?

Protector also gave one of his famous flowers to Half-Breed. Well sort of.  Actually Half-Breed just kind of leapt on it and munched it right out of Protector’s hand while he was offering it to somebody else.. Now here’s where things get weird – er. Half-Breed as you probably know is already a lycanthrope. So what effect could the flower have?

Well it’s too early to say for sure – and Half-Breed denies it – but so far the dread flower seems to have a strangely romantic effect. While the whole incident appears to have alarmed Beast Girl who as a shape-shifter became understandably concerned. Time – and hopefully Half-Breed himself – will tell the final effect on Half-Breed.  Until then, other survivors would be well advised to accept Lycan’s flowers with more caution because they may have unintended side effects on supernaturals.

Oh really Half-Breed? It didn’t affect you AT ALL???

Where does he find those flowers anyway?

Does he cultivate them? Or find and pick them? How do you pick and store them? I

Protector means well though. Maybe he is a bit of a menace the way he likes to play inter-dimensional space-time tag with The Doctor through the shadow realms. And yeah, maybe he is prone to dazzling displays of fire and ice – but he is friendly with his flowers and quick with a greeting or survival advice and anecdotes.

So if he seems a little lycanthrololo at times to you, consider this. LycanTheProtector saw his whole pack hunted for their pelts. A 99.98% true story. I remember reading about it at the time. Do these hunters try to kill them when they are in their most valuable form, say gold or silver fur? Or do their pelts retain the abiity to change after they are removed? Maybe he can tell us, if it’s not too hard to talk about.

Either way, he saw his mate Luna die in his arms. And now he is the last surviving one of his pack, a wolf with many elemental forms and a broken heart. Which gives him a lot in common with Ice, the last surviving Ice Wolf on the site. If they can just keep from freezing each other and everyone else, who knows, they could team up.

Luckily, LycanTheProtector doesn’t seem bent on revenge. Yet.  So far he mainly appears to be trying to move on by helping others. So I hope you won’t be afraid to say hello if Mr. TheProtector greets you with a flower. Be just afraid enough…

NO but seriously – Protector has a lot to offer survival. For instance, did you know he has a developed a unique shifting technique that he can control with his emotions? It’s true. He has a two-leg or wolf-man form that he can summon with sad thoughts. And a playful puppy form that emerges with happy thoughts? Very educational. This marks the first time that a werewolf on the site would tell the secret of a puppy form.  I had no idea but it makes a lot of sense. How better to maintain the speed, agility and tracking senses of your wolf form without alerting other beings?
