The first way that you will be able to tell that you are on the new site is that you are reading this article!
Finally! The moment that we have all been waiting for. SOS is now on a shiny new and improved and much faster server. It was a lot of work to move it over. Quite frankly I am exhausted from watching Graham do it.
The site is still not as fast as I would like it to be and there is much work to be done but it is a LOT better than it was just a few hours ago.
The second way that you will be able to tell that you are on the new site is that there will be some missing posts and some lives saved missing and maybe a few other things for a while until we get it all moved over from the old site. It is also possible that a number of things may be broken or not working right yet and we will do our best to get them fixed up.
The best way to let us know if something is broken or missing is probably to leave a comment below but you can also email me: email@example.com if the comments are not working.
This is only parts one and two of a giant 3 part make over that we are giving the site.
- First we updated all of the software that the site runs on to the latest and greatest and fastest where possible.
- Then we moved the site over to a new much better server.
- And finally the last part, which is yet to come, we are going to give the site a new hair cut. Well figuratively speaking of course. What the next step actually is is a bit of a redesign of the way the site looks but with the added advantage of cutting several seconds off of the page load times and making the site both look better and be more compatible with and load waaaaaay faster on a a whole range of devices and browsers.
There still is the problem of the werewolves page. Comments are back up and running on that page but the software that the site is built on is just not really up to handling nearly 30,000 comments on one page soooooo. We need to do something about that. I am hoping to either archive say the first 20,000 – 25,000 or so comments somewhere and remove them from the werewolves page but I am not really sure how to do that within the confines of my mere mortal lifespan so I am trying to find a way to do it in an automated way.
After we are done all that then I am putting Graham back to work helping me get our new project out to you and then following that we have a big overhaul of the Monstrometer app which will finally add native iPad support and will support the long screens on the new iPod Touch and iPhone 5. Exciting!
Thank you all so much for your patience and keeping on keeping on with Seth On Survival. There is much more work to be done but today was a big day here at Survival HQ.
