When Hell Portal researcher, Francesco D’Andria revealed the exact location of Pluto’s gate this month, his exciting news was greeted by a terrifying reaction from around the globe, something like, Yes it’s very nice, but you see we’ve already got one!

That underworld portals are more common than most people think should not surprise anyone here at SOS where we remain vigilant against the possibility of stepping into a demonic hellevator.
- CHECK BEFORE YOU DIG!
But what is very surprising about this story, is just how many old-fashioned open pit portals remain active around the world today, including this one known as Pluto’s Gate, just discovered hidden among Turkish ruins.
- LOOK FOR INFERNAL FUMES
- TIP THE PRIEST OF PLUTO
While Pluto’s Gate no longer has this relaxing spa bath like it used to in the old days, it is still chugging out infernal fumes that can kill you instantly.
These fumes have been described by the ancient Greeks as, “a vapour so misty and dense you can scarcely see the ground.”

But you may also see a Priest of Pluto hanging around, seemingly unaffected by the fog. If you tip a Priest of Pluto, he has to tell you how to avoid the infernal fumes.
- * SUDDEN HEAT WAVES
- * LOOK FOR INFERNAL FLAMES
- * ROTTEN EGG SMELL
Some of these pits are more dangerous than others. Consider this flashy little hell pit for example. It has been burning for almost half a century in Turkmenistan.
Affectionately known as The Gate or The Door To Hell by locals, this portal has been a great disappointment to Durweze, the demon who first dug it back in 1971. The circle of flames while admittedly dramatic and a show of good branding, gives off a hellish stench that warned away an entire village of souls.
(You can only assume that poor Durweze the demon was swiftly demoted to lesser demon.)
- LOOK FOR MYSTERIOUS MARKINGS THAT MIGHT SAY CAUTION: GATEWAY TO PLUTO
But if you can’t always count on a smell or smoke or a Priest of Pluto to warn you about the possible presence of a dangerous portal, look for the strange markings. It might not be as obvious as this sign, but Hell Portal researcher Francesco says they are all marked in some way. These are the stone markings that tipped him off. Loosely translated it means, Welcome to Pluto’s Gate, Please Breathe Responsibly.
