Friends and fans of the flashy-light faced robot named Petman, are expressing concern this week that the loveable robot’s search for his Bigdog may have prompted him to join the army.
As SOS readers may recall, Petman the dog-walking robot lost his pooch pal Bigdog last year during Robot Week when the robot dog ran away from the scientist who kicked him.
Here at SOS we tried to help Petman find Bigdog by leaving out fresh battery packs and bowls of lubricant. The robot dog was spotted chasing cars, riding the rails and running with the cyber-wolves for several months but in time the reports just stopped and Petman gave up all hope.
Petman has been spotted aimlessly walking the globe ever since, just half the Petman he used to be, reportedly developing a painful identity crisis in the absence of his beloved Bigdog.
“Without my Pet, am I not just a ‘Man?” Petman has said many times via his flashing light.
Now Petman has been spotted by fans training to join the military.
“This is will be the next army. Think about it,” writes a fan on the Boston Dynamics site who goes by the name HellaScience. “When you factor in human life costs, injuries, the fact that these robots do not need food/water/sleep or complicated shelter, don’t need health insurance or medical treatment in battle (just swap the part that is damaged), training it will be less expensive that having a human in battle.”
But many are more afraid that Petman the dog-walking robot will not be tough enough to survive in battle without his trusty companion, Bigdog.
“We can only hope they find each other soon, before it’s too late.”
If you or anyone you know has seen a giant robot dog chasing cars in your neighbourhood, please send an SOS message.
