Full Moon Message Contest Winner

Thanks to everyone who played the first ever SOS Full Moon Message contest! I hope you had as much fun re-reading the The Hall of Fame profiles as I did.

So many unsolved mysteries and forgotten treasures are buried in these survival epics. Like the exact number of ingredients needed to make a Daywalker ring, the origin of the Void Chipmunks and the Mantis Men, to name just a few. Whatever happened to them anyway? Better add them to the list of Important Things to Find Out.

But we may never know. Survivors come and go around here, checking in when it’s safe and moving on when it’s time, leaving only their legend behind for all to study and learn. I appreciate them all, even the ones who aren’t on the list yet, starting with the original Original, that is, the infamous Vampire A.A. to the latest visitor and all the email messages in between. Graham and I are always trying to think of new ways to help preserve and honor your survival tales and I learn from every one.

So to all of you who are keeping on keeping on, my thanks to you for helping us survive. In the words of Hall of Famer P5t5r:

A more loyal, dedicated, devoted, kind, courageous, and passionate group than us you probably won’t find.

And that was the full moon message! There were quite a few correct entries so we had to shake the phone and roll the dice after assigning each entry a number. So without further ado, the winner was that shifty therian Archaea Venomtongue who only coincidentally was also the first to get the right answer. A small iTunes thank-you card is going out to Archaea now.

Thanks to everyone for playing. For the next full moon we’re back to our regularly scheduled Survivor of the Month. Oh, and don’t forget the THREE MILLION mark. The screenshot closest to three million even wins! Alex is the one to beat on this one. He doesn’t say much these days but he is supernaturally fast on the million marks.

Revenge of the Giant Bunnies

Los Angeles – Photos of menacing bunnies hopping in from all over the world today.

I know it’s Easter, a solemn occasion we mark with eggs and chocolate ostensibly provided by a powerful bunny-like creature but survivors, if your chocolate comes hand-delivered by a lurching Leporidae disguised as leader of the safety patrol, or a vicious chihuahua riding a giant rabbit (below) just say no.

All over the world giant rabbits wreaking havoc.

What’s going on here? Well recall rabbits have been animals of prey for tens of thousands of years. Imagine, twenty thousand years of other animals eating you. That can really get to a species.

Now imagine your best defense strategy is freezing, thumping your tail and making lots of little leverets to try and beat the odds aka: the you-can’t-kill-us-all! defense.

Likewise, the humble Chihuahua has been the brunt of jokes for at least as long. Is this the year together they finally wreak their revenge on us all? This photo from England today shows them teaming up to stop traffic and terrify firefighters.

If you see either of these suspicious rabbits, just run. I can not stress this enough. Do not accept the chocolate. Do not snap a photo. Do not text “OMG’. Okay well maybe the photo. But then run. Just make sure that you email me the photo!

Jesus A Shapeshifter? Christian Historian’s Startling Claim

A professor of Christianity just published this incredible new theory about Jesus based on his translation of an ancient manuscript.

Professor Roelof van den Broek, emeritus professor of the History of Christianity at Utrecht University in the Netherlands, deciphered a mysterious 1200 year old Coptic manuscript by a monk writing under the name of “St. Cyril” who claims that Jesus may have been a shapeshifter.

In the manuscript, St. Cyril writes that many people in Jesus’ time seemed to believe he was a powerful shapeshifter. A shapeshifter who could assume all the colors and ages of humanity and even go invisible sometimes.

(St. Cyril does NOT write that Jesus could assume the form of a chocolate bunny, which is good.)

According to the ancient book, the only way to reveal Jesus true form, was thought to be with a kiss. The manuscript credits this as the real story behind the Judas kiss – that Judas kissed Jesus to prevent him from shift forms before he could be arrested.

“For a man who could walk on water, raise the dead, feed 5,000 people with just a single loaf of bread and a fish, and turn water into wine, such abilities are perhaps unsurprising,” writes journalist Damien Gayle.

How much of this shifty new theory is true and how much of it is just an example of ancient Jesus fan fiction? We don’t know. But one thing is absolutely true is that this story calls for more research into the effect of kisses on shape shifters. I need to see this manuscript! It is kept in the Morgan Library and Museum, New York City.

Well the first ever Full Moon message contest is blowing in but first, I need to apologize to Zyboragon, my draconian fiend, I mean friend.

No, not because I used a photo of a brown squirrel to denote a Void Chipmunk. Until somebody gets a decent photo of a Void Chipmunk or at least an acceptable facsimile, it’s the best that I can do. No, I owe Z an apology because I secretly suspected him of unleashing a Void Chipmunk farm on the site to prevent me from finding Forrest Fenn’s gold before him.

Well today, the real cause has been revealed. A global spam storm of epic proportions rocked the Internet last week, attracting roving bands of salami-starved Void Chipmunks everywhere. Turns out they will feed on spam if there’s nothing else available. Who knew?

Anyway, without further ado the full moon message words have begun to glow. Here’s how you can win:

  • Re-read the Survivor of the Month profiles and collect all the moonlit words. There are 16 moonlit words.
  • You can find links to all the Survivor of the Month profiles in the sidebar on the left side of the page.
  • Unscramble the moonlit words to find the full moon message. Remember the moonlit words will appear yellow like this.
  • Dodge the globs of flying spam and hungry chipmunks.
  • Send the full moon message to me at seth@sethonsurvival.com
  • One helpy hint. The message is actually something once said by a Hall of Famer.
  • Then keep on keeping on because I will collect all the entries over the next 72 hours and then draw a winner.

Graham and I will roll the dice tonight and announce the full moon message contest winner. There’s still 8 hours to get your entry in if you haven’t already. Thanks to everyone who has played so far, even if it turned out to be more or less challenging than you hoped. Survival is always the biggest challenge!

 

Find Full Moon Message Wind Moon SOS Game

Well we made it! Thanks to everyone who survived the St. Paddy’s Day SOS server slorkfest. Due to the confusion around here, we’re trying a new game for the Wind Moon only. It’s pretty easy but also kinda hard.

It goes like this. This month the Full Moon will shine on all past Survivors of the Month. Hidden in the Survivor of the Month and Hall of Famer profiles will be a number of words or letters that will turn the colour of moonlight YELLOW. 

To win, you just have to re-read the survivor profiles and find the moonlit word and letters and write them down.But then comes the hard part. The next step is to arrange the moonlight words and letters in the right order to reveal a sort-of-secret SOS message.

(And no, it is not keep on keeping on! Although please don’t forget to do that anyway.)

When you think you have unscrambled the secret SOS message email it to me at seth@sethonsurvival.com. We will draw a winner from among the winning entries if there is more than one.

The game begins NOW! as the full moon rises and continues until there is a winner. I’ll be around catching up on all the true Survival stories playing out now at SOS and making links so I’ll be checking my email throughout the night.

Last thing, who can play? Well basically anyone who has ever left an SOS message that was interesting or inquisitive or imaginative or educational or fun. You make Survival worthwhile.

The prize of course is still a small iTunes number in your email for you or somebody you like, no strings attached. Actually ONE string attached. That you keep on being supernaturally awesome wherever you are, because that helps us all survive.
